Project Objectives

The project is based on 5 different components….

1)Preparation
Meetings will be set up in every country involving all the selected participants to prepare for project activities, go together through the draft Program, collect all the needed documentation, and follow up on visa procedures

2)Intercultural dialogue, and European awareness meetings
The participants during the meeting foreseen in Rome, Siena, Leuven and Bruxelles will share their perspectives and opinions about sensitive topics such as: memory and reconciliation, prejudices and stereotypes. They will explore possibilities for regional cooperation and for Balkan-European cooperation and collect ideas for future projects that could be submitted to the Youth in Action Program. Building on these ideas, the participants will be divided in working groups and will draft paper panels to outline Themes, Objectives, Activities and Follow Up of future projects. Furthermore, the participants will record interviews that will be used to create a film documentary

3) The shared travelling dimension
The participants will have the opportunity to socialize and strenghten their personal relationship by travelling together through Europe by train, a unique and sustainable means of transport which can facilitate socialization among the travellers.

4)Evaluation
After the meetings the participants will participate in the evaluation phase. The group leaders will then put together the results and discuss the outcomes with the participants as a group.

5)Follow up and dissemination
Small events will be organized by the participants in their communities to show the documentary during December 2008/January 2009. Such events are expected to take place in Sarajevo, Belgrade, Pristina, Brussels and Rome.

…aiming to reach the following objectives:

o to promote understanding and respect for diversity by bringing together youth from different religious and ethnic groups. Specifically: ethnic Serbians, ethnic Albanians from Kosovo, Bosnians from the Muslim community and from the Serbian Republic of Bosnia, youth from Belgium, and Italy;

o to promote reconciliation among youth from different communities, including some recently engaged in conflict, and help them fight against prejudices and negative stereotypes;

o to encourage shared experiences and opinions among EU and Balkan participants to overcome political, social and economic differences, and work together on common projects;

o to give Balkan and European youth the chance to visit EU institutions, travel through EU countries, and discuss about EU related issues such as enlargement, European identity, and youth mobility.

o to help Balkan youth break through the challenges of mobility limitations due to visa regimes and travel through Europe, and promote free youth mobility as tool to facilitate cultural understanding and regional cooperation;

o to promote youth empowerment and encourage youth participation in the life of their communities, by offering them a chance to meet and dialogue with high-level officials regarding political issues affecting their future, by meeting with their municipalities to get them involved in the project, and by disseminating project results back home.
